Youth Programs

Rockwall Children’s Playhouse (RCP) at Rockwall Community Playhouse (RCP)

RCP at RCP After School Academy believes the future of community theater depends on identifying, nurturing and developing the talents of children.  No matter what future endeavors children pursue, experience onstage prepares them for confident communication before a wide range of audiences. This tuition based program has evolved to being offered twice a year.

This is a unique and fun retelling of the classic battle of wit and deception as told in the beloved fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood. We meet Red (who is nobody's fool) and the wolf (who tries to be cool) and granny—well, sometimes she's left in the dark! These lively roles are great for teen and young adult actors. Totally RED! begins with a humorous version in storybook theatre style. The story continues with three to five minute retellings of sections within the tale, told in multiple styles: melodrama (The Perils of Being Miss Red); Elizabethan (Much Ado About Red); '80s hip-hop slang (REDz in the Hood); and avant-garde (Call the Moment RED). There is also an additional scene in American musical style, RED! The Musical!. This play is as much fun for the performers as it is for the audience.

RCP’s Teen Theater program gives the talented students of the Rockwall area an opportunity to rehearse and perform their own production each summer.  This program focuses on performance opportunities for young people, highlighting their unique style and energy, while preparing them for later community theater participation.  Many of our teens have gone on to perform in larger shows and bigger venues.  We regularly hear from past participants how their involvement in RCP shaped their performance skills and built lasting memories. Each year, RCP awards a scholarship to graduating seniors to further their education in the fine arts in college.

All RCP at RCP programs are tuition based and cost $150 per child.  Limited scholarships based on need are available.
